Lotus Circle for the Sober-Curious Woman
- Started May 3Started May 3
We are two years into the pandemic and lots of people are looking to change consumption habits. For some of us, it just doesn't feel good to drink alcohol anymore. Any temporary stress-relieving effects are negated by other side-effects, including reduced energy, irritability, diminished productivity and even feelings of guilt or shame. Could reducing or quitting alcohol consumption lead to an inverse relationship to all of these side-effects? (That is, more energy, productivity and positive feelings?) "Sober-curious" is a newish term that gives people some room to explore. How might being curious help you look at your habits and relationships with alcohol in a way that feels honest, authentic, flexible and helpful? Check-out this non-judgemental course to explore how this topic intersects with yoga teachings and practices. See what feels best for you - no pressure to quit right-away or anytime! Women, non-binary and female-identifying folks are welcome. Research on how gender and sex effect relationships to drinking will be covered in this course. This series will be held via Zoom over four Mondays, March 2 - 23, 6 - 7.15pm pst / 8 - 9.15pm cst. Cost is $60. E.B. Ferdig is a yoga therapist specializing in anxiety and addictions. She has been alcohol-free for almost 3 years. What people are saying about this course: "What I liked about this class, besides the teacher and the co-participants, is the practical, non-judgemental approach to choosing better. Choosing a better way to unwind, to relax, rather than drinking. Choosing other rituals. Our culture is beyond toxic, and our society—nearly all societies— relentlessly push alcohol, a highly addictive substance, in both overt and subtle ways. It’s ubiquitous. This class is not a modern temperance society. It’s not about how much you drink or whether you should stop completely, it’s simply about exploring, what if? How? Why? Which ends up being hopeful and empowering. " "E.B.’s Lotus Circle was just the crack in the door I needed to take a gentle, uncommitted look at sobriety. The weekly gatherings were both soothing and instructive. I appreciated E.B.’s guidance and knowledge of yoga and alcohol use, as well as the honest and vulnerable sharing amongst the participants. It was a safe and welcoming space to explore life changes I had been considering, but hadn’t been ready to make. It was a very helpful first step for me in knowing what I wanted for myself moving forward."
