RADICAL REST - A Three-Week Restorative Yoga Series
Three Class Series: December 3, 10, 17
Service Description
The holidays often send us into an even faster pace. What if, right in the middle of it all, you gave yourself permission to slow down? This three-week series offers you a time and place (and an excuse, if you need one) to step off the holiday hamster wheel and tend to your health, vitality, and spirit. Restorative yoga helps you shift out of constant doing and into deep relaxation. This is “doing nothing” yoga: your body is fully supported, your muscles can soften, your breathing can slow, and your mind can begin to settle. The result is a wonderful sense of calm. With regular practice, restorative yoga may support better sleep, ease feelings of anxiety, and support your overall well-being. And the benefits aren't limited to the time you spend on the mat; over time, you can develop a greater capacity for finding calm in everyday life. In this three-part series, we'll practice restorative yoga and explore the physiology behind the details of the practice, including covering the eyes, carefully supporting the head, and practicing in silence. You'll have time to settle into several restorative poses, fine-tune the support your body needs, and discover which shapes work best for you. There will be plenty of time for demonstrations and questions, and I'll be available between classes to help you troubleshoot and adapt your practice. I'll also invite you to explore bite-sized practices of radical rest between classes. Whether you're looking to deepen your existing restorative yoga practice, try it for the first time, or feel more comfortable joining group classes, this series will help you build your understanding and confidence. I've been studying restorative yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater, one of the pioneers of modern restorative yoga. And what I know from my own practice is that, time and again, I emerge feeling as though I've had an amazing nap. My energy is renewed, my shoulders are noticeably lower, and even when my mind hasn't completely quieted, I feel more relaxed and ready to meet the day. Restorative yoga is surprisingly simple, yet it can help us reconnect with reserves we may not even realize we have. I want to help you experience your body's wisdom and capacity for rest, and discover your own relaxed set point rather than accepting chronic tension and busyness as normal. Let's step off the hamster wheel together and practice some radical rest!
