At Unfold, we have always advocated for the mind-body-spirit benefits of yoga. But over time, I have become aware that for many women, especially those in midlife, there was a need for something more to complement their yoga practice: resistance training. The importance of strength building during midlife cannot be overstated. It’s a time when bone density begins to decline, muscle mass starts to decrease, and maintaining a strong, functional body becomes essential for overall health and longevity.
Resistance training offers key benefits for women in this stage of life. It helps combat the natural muscle loss that occurs with age due to reduced estrogen, it strengthens bones to prevent osteoporosis, and improves metabolic health. Beyond the physical advantages, strength training also boosts confidence, mental resilience, and energy levels. The question for many women is: How can I incorporate resistance training in a way that fits my routine?
This is where resistance bands come in. Resistance bands are an accessible, economical, and effective tool for strength training. They provide a portable solution that can be used at home, at work, or while traveling. Unlike heavy weights, bands are easy to store and use, and they offer varying levels of resistance to suit different fitness levels. With a simple set of bands, people can work on building muscle strength without needing a gym membership or bulky equipment.
Resistance bands strength training (along with the cardio-rich WERQ dance fitness class on Thursdays at noon) is a great combination that supports a well-rounded fitness regimen, helping women in midlife stay strong, healthy, and vibrant.
So, why did I bring resistance bands this formerly only-yoga studio? To empower women to strengthen their bodies, improve their quality of life, and make resistance training a regular part of their wellness journey.

Tuesdays noon pst / 3pm est - Lower Body Resistance Band Strength Training
Suggested bands: this set has varied sizes for varied body sizes & varied resistance. ($14)
Wednesdays 1pm pst / 4pm est - Upper Body Resistance Band Strength Training
Suggested bands - this is a basic set and all you need. ($10)
